Biography

 

Born on August 28th,1960 in London, Emma was one of five children born to Madeline and Michael Samuelson. Enrolled in the White Lodge Royal School of Ballet at the age of ten, Emma studied for six years until a hip injury forced her to abandon her dream of dancing.

A brief venture into the modeling world resulted in a lucrative contract with a Japanese Cosmetics Firm, Kanebo,but a more challenging career beckoned. At her first audition, Emma landed a leading role in "Arabian Adventure", co-starring with Mickey Rooney and Christopher Lee. Later in 1979, she starred in "Yesterday’s Hero".

A move to Los Angeles would prove to be a major turning point in Emma’s life. Her first American role was in "More Wild, Wild West", a made for television movie. Next came the mini-series "Goliath Awaits",  Her talent recognized, she was entered into ABC’s Young Talent Program where in 1982, she landed a role on the number one daytime drama "General Hospital". Cast as Holly Sutton, Emma’s character was initially paired with the wildly popular Luke Spencer, played by Anthony Geary. The British beauty quickly won the hearts of viewers, and her popularity soared when her character married Robert Scorpio, played by Tristan Rogers. A classic “knight in shining armor” storyline was a hit with viewers, and Robert and Holly became the number one couple in daytime.

In 1985, Emma was offered a primetime role on "Dynasty". Just as Holly and Robert Scorpio moved to Australia for the happy ending fans demanded, Fallon Carrington Colby was resurrected. Also appearing in the spin-off "The Colbys" Emma remained on Dynasty until the end of its run in 1989.

 She starred in various films such as "Delirious" and "Shrimp on the Barbie" until returning to General Hospital in 1992 to resume the role she made famous. A successful stint on "Models Inc" followed.  Returning to her homeland, Emma starred in "Holby City" and "The Doctors". Her most recent role was in ITV’s "The Bill". Also a scriptwriter, Emma’s first project was made into a USA Network Film, "His Bodyguard".

Today, Emma lives in the English countryside raisong her two children, Cameron and Beatrice. 

Emma has always been very active in charity work. She co-created the Starlight Foundation with her cousin Peter Samuelson to grant wishes to chronically and terminally ill children. Every year since the early 1980's, Emma travels to Des Moines, Iowa to host the Variety Club Telethon and recently, she participated in BBC’s "Celebrity Scissorhands" for Children in Need.
